Hybrid Dream Auction planned for this year

Dream auction on the way

Kalamalka Rotary’s 37th Annual Dream Auction will be a hybrid event this year.

In keeping with COVID concerns, the popular social event and fundraiser is offering an in-person experience combined with an online auction and will take place Nov. 20, at the Vernon Golf and Country Club.

The online format will provide opportunities to bid on items as early as Halloween.

“To respect global health concerns, we are moving the event to this newly renovated venue which will offer a more intimate experience to our guests,” said Brian Reid, Dream Auction chairperson. “Moving the auction online will help those who wish to support our efforts and participate easily. The on-line Dream Auction will feature special guests, performers and entertainment that coincides with the live event.”

Virtual guests will be able to fully participate in the live and silent auctions and arrange special orders from their favourite take-out restaurants and caterers.

“The success of the annual Dream Auction results from the generosity of local businesses and individuals who donate items, experiences or services and to the guests who bid on these items,” adds Jaqueline Rivard, Kal Rotary president for 2021-22. “The platform we will be using allows us to begin the silent auction ahead of the Nov. 20 event.”

Funds raised at the Dream Auction will be used to support local not-for-profit organizations as well as international programs.

Last year, the Dream Auction “GoFundMe” helped organizations respond to the COVID pandemic and provided funds to the Good Food Box Society, Men’s Shed Vernon Society and the Halina Centre, among others.

Internationally, the club supported efforts to provide clean water to families in Haiti and educational supplies and equipment to schools in Nepal.

Businesses or individuals who have items or services to donate to the auction this year are asked to contact a local Kalamalka Rotarian or Reid.

Since 1985, the Kalamalka Rotary Dream Auction has raised more than $ 4,652,000 which has been directed to worthy local and International projects and programs, including a variety of youth programs.
