2900 Plaza attractions being removed early after new restrictions issued by Dr. Bonnie Henry

Plaza reopening soon

Downtown Vernon’s 2900 Plaza is deconstructing early due to new protocols of only 50 people being allowed in a venue.

Peter Kaz of the Downtown Vernon Association says that because the street is blocked off on both ends it becomes a venue space and that space cannot surpass 50 people.

The patio tables were removed on Monday from the plaza to avoid people gathering to sit in the venue-like space.

Kaz had planned a Plaza Day on the block for Aug. 21 that was expected to have a list full of activities including a movie night, however, the event had to be cancelled as the new protocols were announced the day before the event.

He added that new additions that were added by the City of Vernon and the DVA to the block, including the planters, will start to be removed.

City of Vernon Spokesperson, Christy Porier confirmed the block will remain closed to vehicle traffic until Sept. 7.
