Vernon Recreation Services numbers returning after last year's pandemic shutdown

The City of Vernon's Recreation Services department is beginning to get back on track after being effectively shut down for all of spring last year, during the pandemic.

A second quarter report to city council shows an increase in client numbers compared to last spring, as the recreation centre was closed.

The Youth After School program saw six kids in eight weeks, and the Playschool program had 80 participants in eight activities, between April 6 and June 18.

The Sports and Skill program managed 67 kids within six classes.

Beach volleyball and tennis leagues were able to resume in May.

City administration confirms the reopening of the pool at the aquatic centre is on schedule and is set to open on Aug. 3.

The centre saw a 41 per cent decrease in revenue compared to the last pre-COVID second quarter, in 2019.

Total revenue for the 2021 second quarter was $375,430, compared to 2019’s revenue of $635,023.

In 2020, the department reached a total revenue of $182,425.
