Small fire quickly extinguished in Vernon's Becker Park

Suspicious fire doused

Vernon firefighters helped a resident extinguish a suspicious fire in Becker Park Sunday evening.

A resident of the area says they stomped out a fire on the hill behind the Vernon Rec Centre which appeared to be a pile of papers that had been set alight.

Vernon Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene about 5:50 p.m. and the small grass fire was quickly extinguished.

No structures were damaged in the incident.

City of Vernon spokesperson Christy Poirier says the fire has been deemed suspicious, and the investigation has been handed over to the RCMP.
