Transmission circuit failure creates massive power outage

Power restored across region

UPDATE: 7:05 p.m.

According to BC Hydro power has now been restored across the North Okanagan.

The outage, which was caused by a transmission circuit failure, lasted roughly two hours.

Over 33,000 customers were affected.

BC Hydro is reporting that 366 people in Golden remain without power.


UPDATE: 6:40 p.m.

According to multiple residents power has been restored in some areas in both Lake Country and South of Vernon.

BC Hydro posted an update on their website just after 6:30 p.m.

"We're currently working on restoring power as quickly and safely as possible. Please continue to check back for the latest updates as they become available."


UPDATE: 6:25 p.m.

Over 33,000 customers across the North Okanagan remain without power.

Multiple residents have taken to Twitter asking BC Hydro how long the outage would last.

BC Hydro wrote: Hi there, we're unable to provide an estimate at this time. We'll be sharing more info on the mobile site, please continue to check back."

BC Hydro is reporting a widespread power outage across Vernon, Coldstream, Lake Country and Spallumcheen due to a transmission circuit failure.

BC Hydro says a total of 33,269 customers have been affected.

Residents in the area say the power went out just after 4: 30 p.m.

"Crews have been assigned to the transmission circuit failure near #VernonBC," BC Hydro said in a tweet.
