O'Keefe Ranch holding goat yoga classes, and people are loving it

Yoga, but with goats

Victoria Femia

You've heard of the downward dog, but how about the sideways goat?

O’Keefe Ranch is holding yoga classes with some unexpected company.

When asked “why goats?” Samantha Richardson, Yoga with Goats instructor, had a simple answer: “I really don’t know,” she laughed.

She says the goats add a calming presence to the class that people seem to enjoy.

“It’s very random, it’s a lot of fun, but it’s very random,” said Richardson.”The goats actually have personalities, they come and check you out and give you some lovin.’”

“I think the best thing about the goats, they give people a sense of calm. Some people may be anxious if they haven’t done much yoga, but when it’s yoga with goats, you can just hang out with the goats,” Richardson added.

Classes run from June to August, and all you have to bring is your yoga mat or towel.

Richardson believes doing yoga at the ranch with the animals allows people to put their mind at ease, and it lifts the pressure of being in a yoga studio.

“I think especially if you go to a studio class, sometimes you really want to perform and do your best, you’re worried the teacher is going to crack down on you, but here, I state right away – ‘it doesn’t matter if you do any yoga at all, if you want sit around and hang out with the goats, then do that,” said.
