Vernon cycling experts explains what dozens of road signs in BC mean

What do those signs mean?

“Signs, signs, everywhere a sign, blocking out the scenery breaking my mind...”

So goes the 1971 classic by the Five Man Electrical Band, and while it was more of a societal protest song, there really are a lot of signs out there.

Dozens of road signs are enough to confuse motorists and cyclists alike, and cycling expert Bruce Mol took to his YouTube channel, Think Bicycle, to explain what some of those signs mean.

“There are seven general categories of traffic signs in B.C.,” says Mol. “There are literally hundreds of traffic signs.”

Many of them are rarely seen, so Mol goes over the most common signs and how they relate to cycling.

Mol is known in the area for training people how to safely navigate public byways their bicycles.

He has an extensive background as an instructor, teaching people how to ride in Vancouver before moving to Vernon in 2004.

Mol, who has a masters in education, instructs Vernon Safe Community Unit ambassadors, bylaw officers in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton, as well as the Salmon Arm Safety Patrol.
