We asked people in downtown Vernon what they think of planned 30th Avenue closure

Thoughts on 30th closure

With only the details remaining to be worked out, the closure of one block of 30th Avenue in downtown Vernon appears set to take place next month.

The 2900 block of Vernon's "main street" would become pedestrian only until early September in an effort to invigorate downtown and help restaurants that have struggled during CIVID-19 restrictions.

A Downtown Vernon Association survey found strong business support for the closure on the 29800 block, but not the 300 block, leading to the decision to just close the single block, starting July 1.

Council will discuss the cost of the initiative later this month.

We hit the street downtown, to ask locals what think of the pedestrian-only plan.
