Hair Salon in Gifu, Japan rebrands and takes on the Vernon namesake

A taste of Vernon, in Japan

People in Gifu, Japan can now get their hair done in Vernon.

Former resident Jason Emde posted in the Vernon and Area Community Forum on Facebook about his brother-in-law Dai Nakahara, who renamed his family's salon in Gifu, Japan after Emde’s hometown, Vernon.

“My brother-in-law decided to name his hair salon after my hometown, which means that, if you come to Gifu in central Japan, you can get your haircut at Vernon,” Emde’s post read.

Jason’s father, Wayne Emde, told Castanet the name prior to Vernon, was “Whoop-Dee-Doo,” which to Dai’s father sounded like “a celebration.”

“It was a bit of a shock, the word Vernon is not easily pronounced in Japanese, so Jason was quite amazed that Dai decided to call it Vernon,” said Wayne Emde.

Inside the salon is a large sign that reads “Welcome to Vernon.”

Nakahara and Jason both live in Gifu now. Jason has been there for 23 years.
