Organic curbside pick up to divert waste from landfill in Armstrong

Armstrong goes green

A new automated solid waste collection service will divert organic waste from the landfill in Armstrong.

The new program will roll out May 1. It includes weekly pick up of food waste and alternating bi-weekly pick up of solid and green waste.

"This is an important step forward for Armstrong," said Mayor Chris Pieper. "This collection program will reduce the amount of garbage going to landfills and we are happy to be working with SCV Contractors to see this happen."

The locally owned company operates across the North and Central Okanagan, Shuswap, and Thompson regions.

All residential properties currently served by curbside collection are eligible for the new service.

Properties will be provided with a 240-litre cart for solid waste and a smaller bin for food waste.

All multi-family complexes currently being serviced by large format bins will continue to receive that service.

Recycling services remain under the current management through the provincial government and Recycle BC.
