City of Armstrong looking at one per cent municipal tax increase for 2021

Armstrong eyes 1% tax hike

The City of Armstrong is looking at a one per cent municipal tax increase for 2021.

The city's financial plan, to be discussed at Monday's council meeting, recommends the one per cent hike, which would bring in an additional $22,947.

Other revenue increases include RCMP funding ($25,000), an infrastructure levy ($58,075), and revenue from new assessments ($67,523).

The major portion of $1.6 million in provincial and federal COVID-19 Safe Restart grant funding ($1 million) will go towards construction of a new city hall to replace Armstrong's aging civic building.

The $4,189,000 project would pull $1,589,000 from reserve funds.

Other major projects include drainage work on Meadow Creek, a cemetery expansion, the rehabilitation of Spirit Square, continued street light replacement, and water meter updates.

No cuts to service levels are anticipated.

A public engagement session on the 2021- 2025 Financial Plan will allow residents the opportunity to speak at Monday's meeting.

The plan foresees total revenues of $9,626,354 this year increasing to $16,394,006 in 2021.

Staff will bring back analysis on any initiatives that council would like investigated further at the following meeting.
