Vernon briefly boasted lowest price in BC for gasoline on Tuesday

Gas war starting to fade

UPDATE: 3:35 p.m.

Prices are beginning to climb back up after a brief gas war in Vernon.

Super Save, which had been pushing the prices down, has upped its posted price to 102.9 cents a litre.

At least some of the stations that had lowered their prices to 102.9 cents a litre are now back up at 114.9.

Better gas up while you can get it for cheap!

ORIGINAL: 1:45 p.m.

Vernon motorists can fill up with the lowest gasoline prices in B.C. as of Tuesday afternoon.

Drivers elsewhere around the Thompson-Okanagan don't seem to be benefitting from the gas war, however.

Prices in Vernon have dropped steadily over the past week, from 115.9 cents a litre, to 114.9, then 108.9, 105.9, 102.9 and – at Super Save at least – 97.9 cents a litre.

The posted price on the street is 99.9 cents, but at the pump it's actually two cents lower.

The dramatic drop is the first time prices have dipped below a dollar a litre in some time, and the pressure seems to be driven by Super Save, as most other stations in Vernon are at 102.9 cents a litre. Some are even still at 114.9.

According to gasbuddy.com, that officially gives Vernon the lowest prices in the province. Fort St. John is not far behind at 98.9 cents a litre.

Elsewhere in the Southern Interior, Kelowna drivers are paying 114.9, in Kamloops 113.9 other than at Costco, which is charging 108.9 cents a litre, and in Penticton stations appear evenly split between 113.9 and 114.9.

But Vernon can't claim the lowest prices in Canada. Edmonton drivers are currently paying as little as 82.9 cents a litre to fill up.
