Campaign launched for Lumby family who lost home to fire

GoFundMe for fire family

UPDATE: 11:45 a.m.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for a Lumby family burned out of their home Wednesday night.

"My closest and dearest friends, Chelsea and Cory, woke up in the middle of the night to their house on fire. They were able to make it out safely with their two five-year-old daughters," campaign organizer Holly Henderson.

"However, they have lost a great deal of their home and belongings.

"After just recently buying their home and getting engaged, this is a very tragic way for them to start what was supposed to be an exciting new chapter and milestone in their life."

As of midday Thursday, the campaign had raised $1,845 toward a goal of  $10,000.

A Lumby family was forced out of its home overnight by a fire.

Fire Chief Tony Clayton says crews were called to the blaze on Skyview Crescent about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When firefighters arrived, they found the top floor of the three-storey home fully engulfed in flames.

All occupants got out safely.

The blaze was knocked down quickly, says Clayton. However, crews were on scene overnight and only left this morning, as there were several flare-ups.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The home suffered extensive damage and is no longer structurally sound, says Clayton.

The family is staying with relatives and was insured.
