Salmon Arm RCMP getting calls about phone tax scams

Phone scammers are at it again.

Salmon Arm RCMP have received a number of reports of fraudulent tax scam calls where an automated voice tries to get potential victims to continue the call to avoid prosecution.

“Please do not continue the call,” said Staff Sgt. Scott West. “Just hang up on the call.”

Canada Revenue, also referred to as the CRA, does not do business with Canadians this way.

“Of note, the call also may be spoofing a local number. The CRA does not have an office in Salmon Arm and would not be calling from a local number,” said West.

People reminded not to provide any financial or personal information to anyone over the phone. Additionally, do not confirm any information.

“Our best advice is to just hang up on this automated call,” said West.
