Maintenance on Armstrong sewage facility may create stench

Sewage plant work may stink

Get ready for a stink.

The City of Armstrong says it will be starting maintenance on its sewage treatment facility located on Adair Street this week.

The project will remove a build-up of sludge from one of the facility’s cells. Work is expected to start July 2 and could take up to 2.5 weeks to complete.

“This work may result in the release of odour during the project,” said the municipality in a news release. “The city will endeavour to complete the project as soon as possible and thank you for your patience. The intent of this project is to increase the long-term capacity at the facility and the City is hopeful that the removal of the sludge will have a long term positive impact on the seasonal odour issues the City has historically dealt with from the sanitary cells.”
