Milfoil control on Okanagan Lakes is moving from rototilling to harvesting.
The Okanagan Basin Water Board says milfoil control crews are completing rototilling work in valley lakes and will be heading into the maintenance shop to prepare their machines for harvesting season.
Rototilling, or de-rooting, the invasive weed is the most effective control method, says the board, but it can only be done when temperatures are below 10 C, when the plant cannot re-root.
Harvesting, or mowing, is done in summer.
Meanwhile, the water board will hold its annual state of the Okanagan water supply webinar on April 16.
The webinar is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will include updates on the current state of reservoir levels, snowpack, groundwater, as well as a look at the weather and wildfire forecast for the region.
The event will be of interest to local government staff and elected officials, the agricultural community, water managers, water professionals and others, says the board.
