Tanya Laing Gahr is passionate for helping the marginalized

Looking out for others

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce has released its Top 20 Over 40 list for 2020, and Castanet will be featuring all of the honourees.

Tanya Laing Gahr is passionate for helping the marginalized in society.

“I consider myself a intersectional feminist. So that means I am not just looking out for the well being of women, but the well being of people of colour, people who are marginalized in our society,” Laing Gahr.

“This is why I really appreciate theatre, this is why I really appreciate the Archway Society. They both have the same mandate of bringing community in and telling those stories.”

To that end, Laing Gahr is active with Archway Society for Domestic Peace and the Power House Theatre where she is an actor and director.

Laing Gahr said Archway “does an amazing job. Their outreach to the community, their support for families and women and children who are in abusive situations is unparalleled.

“There is a lot of work that we in the community don't see that is happening all the time.”

When she is not volunteering with Archway of Power House, Laing Gahr works with Fortis BC as the Indigenous Initiatives Manager.

The Top 20 over 40 is presented by the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, KPMG, the regional district and Castanet.
