Coldstream defers budget to consider ice rink request

Coldstream eyes 3.5% hike

Coldstream residents are looking at a potential 3.5 cent municipal tax hike this year.

But, a final decision was deferred by council this week, to consider a request to contribute $50,000 towards a roof for the outdoor Lavington ice rink.

Mayor Jim Garlick says council deferred adoption of the budget to see how inclusion of the request might affect residents' tax bills.

"We would like to support it if we can," said Garlick. "Either by a direct donation or by offering tax receipts as an incentive on other donations.

"We just need to see what effect that might have on the (proposed) tax increase."

Garlick said a final decision should come in the next two weeks.

The proposed tax hike would result in an extra $56 on an average-valued home in Coldstream. That figure could be more or less depending on your property value.
