The Okanagan survived another winter, warm temps on the way

Congratulations Okanagan, you survived another winter.

While there may be a few isolated cold days on the horizon and perhaps even a dusting of snow here and there over the next few weeks, the worst is officially over.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says temperatures over the next few days throughout the Valley will be about 10 C.

Temperatures will likely dip down again, but when they come back up, it will be a little bit warmer than the last high of the year.

“Every few days it's going to go up a degree. We are in that period where the sun is accelerating and the warm-up is accelerating. It truly is the turn to spring,” Lundquist said.

“It's going to be between 8 and 12 C for the rest of the week.”

Lundquist said it might cool down again briefly, but it won't get "winter cold" again.

“In meteorology, we call the first of March the first day of spring,” said Lundquist. “You can still get cold days in March, but it is usually just a cold night here and there. The sun has so much power, it will warm up during the day. So yes, we have survived winter.”

The seasonal outlook for March through May is cooler than average, but that doesn't mean spring is coming any later.

“We have already crossed the boundary to spring, so it's not going to be late – it's already here,” said Lundquist.
