CSRD approves $50,000 towards roof for outdoor Falkland rink

$50K for Falkland rink

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District is chipping in $50,000 to put a roof over Falkland's outdoor skating rink.

The upgrade will increase the length of the skating season and also provide the Falkland & District Community Association the ability to hold events at the covered facility.

Funding will come from the Electoral Area D Community Works Fund, which utilizes gas tax funding.

The cost of the project is estimated at $180,000.

Area D Director Rene Talbot noted a covered facility would offer a better option for community markets and vendors at events.

Other plans for the covered rink during the off-ice season include ball hockey, farmers markets, and hosting the Falkland Stampede dance.

The association hopes to have the work complete before the May long weekend.
