Road dust advisory renewed in Vernon

Dust advisory stays in place

A road dust advisory has been renewed in Vernon.

The Ministry of Environment and Interior Health re-issued the advisory Thursday for at least another day. It was originally put in place on Tuesday.

“The advisory remains in effect due to high concentrations of dust that are expected to persist for the next 24 hours,” the advisory said.

People with chronic medical conditions are being told to avoid heavy exercise near busy roads until the advisory is lifted.  Exposure is of particular concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

Coarse particulate readings (PM10 24Hr) Thursday afternoon at the Vernon Science Centre were at 106 µg/m3, more than double the province’s acceptable limit of 50 µg/m3.
