A look back at the Vernon Winter Carnival, and toward next year

A look back on Carnival

The dust has settled and Vernon Winter Carnival is now over after another successful year. Remember the 60s was a hit with Vernon residents, who seemed to love the theme and the events.

"We've had lots of feedback from the community saying this may have been on the best festivals ever," says Vicki Proulx, the Executive Director for the carnival. "I think people really got into the theme and really enjoyed some of the old events being brought back."

Some of the events that were brought back were the bed races, the ice palace and jam can curling, which were revived for the 60th anniversary of the carnival. The events were a big hit, and the hope is to keep them around for future festivities.

"We've already had requests to bring back the ice palace next year," says Proulx. "We are going to do our best to take the community's suggestions into consideration and try to keep some of the fun old events."

Even though the carnival has only been over for a couple days, the work for next year has already just begun.

"Next week we will be choosing the theme for next year's carnival," says Proulx. "It will be announced at the carnival awards which will happen in March.

You can submit your suggestion for next year's theme through their contact page on their website, or you can send them a Facebook message.
