Senior provincial championships at Vernon curling club this week

Seniors rock the house

Some of the best men's and women's senior curlers are in Vernon this week for the provincial championships.

The round-robin tournament got underway Tuesday at the Vernon curling rink with teams vying for a shot at the nationals later this year in Manitoba.

George Horner, with the tournament, said there are four Okanagan teams at the event.

Vernon product skip Mark Longworth is in the hunt as is Kelowna skips Mike Slattery, Steve Wright and team Richard Brower. On the ladies side, skip Marilou Richter out of Kelowna hopes to take the title.

All of the teams are made up of players 50 and older.

Horner said it is free to watch and spectators will be treated to some top-notch curling action.
