Store owner attacked, suspect convicted but released for time served

Convicted and released

A woman who assaulted a Vernon store owner, caused damage to the store and assaulted a police officer was sentenced to time served in a Vernon court room Thursday.

Jayleen Dorothy Fuller was found guilty of assault, assault of a police officer and mischief to property over $5,000.

Fuller was also given two years probation and was prohibited from possessing firearms for five years.

In September 2019, Casa Bella Bedding Boutique owner Diana Vona was assaulted in her downtown business by Fuller.

"Independent witnesses at the scene advised police that the suspect entered the store, and when told to leave her personal bags at the front for security reasons, the exchange between the suspect and the victim quickly escalated to a physical assault against the store employee without warning," said Const. Kelly Brett at the time of the incident. "During the course of the interaction, the suspect caused significant damage to the store.”

Police believe Fuller may have been under the influence of an unknown substance, given her erratic behaviour, which continued while in police custody.

While in custody, Fuller assaulted a police officer.
