Megan Fowles proclaimed Vernon's Queen Silver Star LX

Vernon's queen proclaimed

After an evening of glittering crowns, tiny princesses, talent demonstrations and more, Megan Fowles was proclaimed Queen Silver Star LX.

With her, Princess Piper Cahoon will preside over the 60th anniversary of Vernon Winter Carnival.

The evening at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre opened with a tribute to the 1960s choreographed by SO Dance.

The three top talent candidates, Piper Cahoon, Chaundra Hauber and Quintessa Louis performed for the judges, with Cahoon winning the scholarship for her ribbon dance routine.

Members of the RCMP escorted the reigning Winter Carnival royalty, Queen Hayley Rakos and Princess Madison Barrett, to the stage, where for the final time, they took their places on their thrones.

One of the highlights was the introduction of the candidates and their little buddies, the Little Miss Princesses.

Former royalty were introduced, including Melanie Monk, Queen Silver Star XVIII, who noted that one of the highlights of her coronation was having Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau place the crown on her head. Soon after, she was on her way to Japan for a 10-day trip to help promote the local skiing industry.

Queen Silver Star XV, Linda Bidulka Honeychurch remembered that she was so convinced that she would not win that, in spite of advice from friends and family, she didn’t prepare a speech.

The coronation of Queen Silver Star LX will take place this evening at 5 p.m. at the Ice Palace located at the City Hall complex.
