City of Vernon employee gets RCMP award for saving man's life

A real life-saver

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP presented Ewen Pitt with a gold coin acknowledging his efforts in going above and beyond in his work.

On Dec 18, Pitt, who works for the City of Vernon, noticed that no one had seen or had contact with a resident for a few days. He reached to people who knew the man but they hadn't heard anything from him, which they told him was unusual. Pitt contacted the RCMP as a precaution, and an officer found the man in his home in medical distress.

The 73-year-old was then brought to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for treatment and is now okay.

"Ewen listened his intuition and took the initiative to follow up on this matter," says Supt Shawna Baher. "Because of his dedication and caring, we were able to get this gentleman the medical assistance he needed. Ewan is just one example of the exemplary employees we have at this detachment."

21 Vernon North Okanagan RCMP coins have been awarded over the last year to employees who go above and beyond to serve their community.
