RDNO looking for government grants for water improvements

Big bucks needed for water

The Regional District of North Okanagan is looking at upgrade options for the Greater Vernon's water system.

The RDNO is looking for $30 million from the provincial and federal governments for the Mission Hill water treatment plant's filtration system.

The project is also needed to meet the province's standards for drinking water.

"It meets all of the criteria of the Green Fund grant program including increased access to potable water for Greater Vernon Water customers," said Zee Marcolin, the general manager of utilities at the RDNO.

The total cost of the filtration system is $45 million.
