Canada Post retirees auctioning off hockey collectibles

Own some hockey history

Some people can be really hard to buy gifts for, but if they're a hockey fan, this event might just solve your problems.

The Canada Post Heritage Club will be auctioning off framed photos and collector's items of some of hockey's biggest legends. And to top it off, the money will be going toward supporting local youth.

The money raised will be going toward the Canada Post Community Foundation, which gives out grants to organizations across the province that benefit the youth population.

The memorabilia will showcase stars of hockey's past like Wayne Gretzky, Phil Esposito, Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux, among others.

"They are items with limited edition photographs and stamps," says Wanda Fisher, a member of Central Yukootok Heritage Club. "Two of them are autographed as well."

The retail value of the pieces range from $60 to $300, and bidding will start at $50 with $10 increments with each bid. It will be a silent auction, and anyone is welcome to come by.

"We invite anyone from the community to stop in and check it out," says Fisher. "The memorabilia will be on display and people can bid on whichever item they choose."

The auction will be happening on Dec 14 at Don Cherry's Bar & Grill from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guests are invited to come in any time during those times to place their bid.

The Central Yukootok Division of the Canada Post Heritage Club has members all over B.C. and the Yukon, including a large number of members from Kelowna and the rest of the Okanagan.
