'Don't Be a Grinch, Shop Local' contest offers $500 prize

Shop locally, win money

When you're shopping for gifts this holiday season, don't forget about the local businesses Vernon has to offer. Shopping locally supports families in the community, and the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce is offering an incentive for Vernon shoppers.

The 'Don't Be a Grinch, Shop Local' contest will be ongoing until Dec 11, and one lucky person could win their purchase up to $500.

"Local business owners are our friends, neighbours and family. They create employment opportunities
and donate to our sports teams and non-profits," said Dione Chambers, the Greater Vernon Chamber general
manager. "We hope that our contest will inspire residents to consider their shopping activities and support local."

Shopping local means the money you spend stays right here in the community. A study from LOCO BC found that for every $100 spent with a local B.C. business, $63 is recirculated back into the provincial economy.

You are eligible for the prize when you shop at a Greater Vernon Chamber member before 4 p.m. and if you keep your receipt. The winner will be selected at random on Dec 13 at the Chamber Christmas luncheon.
