Pat Duke Arena set for renovations

Local arena getting facelift

Despite some recent challenges, the renovation of the Pat Duke Arena is on budget and set to move into the detailed design phase.

The challenges were due to the age of the building, but the construction start date of spring 2020 hasn't wavered and remains on schedule.

The designs include adding four new change rooms, renovating the two existing change rooms, an upgraded entrance and storage. These renovations will provide enough space for co-ed tournaments and an overall improvement of functionality and accessibility.

“The RDNO is looking forward to revitalizing this arena for the community and we are invested in the success of this project,” says Tannis Nelson, the Manager of Community Services. “We are moving it along as quickly as possible, but want to make sure that we get it right.”

The White Valley Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee has also approved $500,000 to reinforce the arch frame structure of the building, which will be worked on at the same time as the renovations.

It is expected that the project will be issued for tender on the first week of February.
