Agricultural property owners will have a 2 week window

Council has approved fall open burning from Oct 19 to Nov 3, giving agricultural property owners in Coldstream a chance to prepare for winter.

This approval is restricted for properties that are two hectares or more.

"With this option, residents will have three full weekends to complete their burning within a total of 16 days for open-air burning," said Keri-Ann Austin, director of corporate administration. "In the fall, the venting index is typically low. Even in a 16- day burning period, there may be several days where the venting index is too low to allow for burning."

Only one burning permit per property will be issued annually, either in the spring or fall.
