Okanagan's Got Talent contest underway in Vernon

A diamond in the rough

There are a lot of talented people in the Okanagan, and now is their time to shine.

Okanagan's Got Talent is the largest talent show to hit the area, with 140 artists taking to the stage over the coming weeks.

Organized by Peter Kaz of the Village Green Hotel, OGT will put the spotlight on up-and-coming stars.

Entrants from Nelson to Kamloops to Penticton and all points in between have already signed up.

While most of the hopefuls are singers, Kaz said there are a variety of ages and talents, including comedians, dancers, jugglers and others.

More than $10,000 worth of cash and prizes are up for grabs, including a promo video, photography session, glam job, shopping spree, WestJet flights, studio time and more.

The first round started Oct.6, and the contest will continue through Dec. 15, Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m., except Thanksgiving.

“We will resume after the holiday break Jan. 12 for the second round, with the finale being sometime in March,” said Kaz, adding OGT is a “mammoth undertaking to find a diamond in the rough.

“The judges are going to be a variety of people from the music industry, people from the radio industry and myself actually as I have lots of experience in my background with procuring record label deals,” said Kaz who has worked with the likes of Rhianna, Arianna Grande and The Weekend.

“We will do a promotional video for you. The prizes are made to assist these people's careers and the judges are going to hopefully help further those careers and open up some doors. Some of the other prizes include live performances, so they will be a part of some big shows.”
