Time to run for Terry

It's one of the largest fundraisers in the world held in dozens of countries, and on Sunday the annual Terry Fox Run will be held at Marshall Field in Vernon.

Over the years the run has generated millions of dollars for cancer research.

Local co-organizer Amar Purewal said people are encouraged to arrive and register at 9 a.m. with the run starting at 10 a.m.

But you do not have to be an athlete to participate.

“You can cycle, you can walk it, a lot of individuals brought baby strollers and things like that so we have individuals walking or running at all different speeds,” said Purewal.

There are also different distances people can take part in. The event is non-competitive and while there is no minimum entry fee, participants are asked to make a donation to the cause.

Purewal said the event raised $7,500 last year and this year organizers hope to raise $10,000 of which 83 cents on the dollar goes to cancer research.
