It's a throne worthy of a dragon battle or two.
Chainsaw artist Kelly Davies was on hand at O'Keefe Ranch on Sunday, July 21 as part of the Family Day event.
His eight-hour project was to convert a huge spruce tree stump into a throne fit for a king, or visitors to the ranch who want to feel like royalty for a day.
"I come from Alberta, and the biggest I've seen in Alberta to date is 29 inches plus a bit. This is 38 inches, and it must have been an incredible, incredible tree," Davies said during a rare break in action.
He carefully chose the angle of the throne to maximize the views of the distant hills and fields.
Despite discovering some metal in the middle of the stump, which damaged at least one chain and one saw, Davies made it look easy.
He also had to overcome some internal damage from beetles.
The throne is ready to hold your royal tuckus up on the hill at the Historic O'Keefe Ranch, which is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week through to Sept. 29.
