Local vies for pageant title

Vernon's Samantha Sewell is heading to Milwaukee on Aug. 5 to represent North America at the Miss Royalty International pageant.

Last year, the 21-year-old represented Canada at the same event where she took home the first runner-up spot, top five international role model, as well as the title of Miss International Volunteer 2019 — the first time that title was won by a Canadian.

Sewell has attended more than 50 local, provincial and national charity events over the past year.

Sewell, born with speech impediments, has become an advocate for Apraxia of speech, hoping to be a role model for all people with invisible disabilities by showing them that no matter what labels someone puts on you, you can do anything you put your heart to.

If she wins she has plans to speak at local schools, travel to Calgary for the Walk for Apraxia and work on a law to get the Kids Help Phone in all elementary and high schools in B.C.
