Fun times learning to fish

While catching fish will be the main focus of the day, there will be a lot going on at the Learn to Fish event later this month.

Held at the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre on July 28, the event will not only teach people how to fish but will have lots of other activities.

Perry Wainwright, with the Kalamalka Fly Fishers Club, said all of the activities are free for youth 15 and under.

The event goes from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the centre on Mabel Lake road 25 km from Enderby.

“They can learn how to catch fish, they can learn how to tie flies, we have freshwaters fisheries that will show them how to release fish and how to handle them,” said Wainwright.

There will also be information on invasive species like quagga and zebra mussels.

“We will do fish cleaning and when we do the cleaning we will do a little bit of a dissection process wit the fish and explain parts of the fish,” he said. “We will also do some knot tying. This all free for anyone who comes out.”

The Lions Club will also have a by-donation barbecue.
