Vernon Fire Rescue were called to Kosmino Road Thursday after a fire broke out at Can Am Pet Treats.
Jason Spencer, with CanAm, said an employee alerted him to a problem with the 150-foot dryer.
When he went to investigate, he saw black smoke billowing from the large piece of equipment.
“As soon as I opened up the door, I realized it was a very big issue,” said Spencer, who immediately evacuated staff and called the fire department.
“I opened one of the access panels. I could see the flames inside. I tried to put it out (with a fire extinguisher) but it was too big and I had to get out of the building; it was too smokey,” said Spencer. “I'm no one's hero, I just wanted to make sure that everybody was safe.”
Spencer said the dryers are cleaned weekly, but “it was just one of those things and unfortunately something ignited.”
Spencer said the fire department was on scene in a matter of minutes and quickly had the flames under control.
It is not know how much damage the fire caused.
