Paddle marathon a success

The cool weather didn’t dampen the spirits of local stand up paddle boarders Saturday.

Boarders took to Kal Lake beginning a 24 hour marathon on Saturday at. 8 a.m. running continuously through the night until 8 a.m. Sunday.

Money raised will go directly to help local families fighting cancer.

The event started in Seattle in 2014 and communities around the continent have been inspired to join in.

Lisa Fogel, self-proclaimed mom-on-the-beach, says, “We’ve had strangers drop by bringing cupcakes and cookies and donations. Someone just brought us some hand warmers for the adults that will be going through the night.''

“The community is really coming together. The Rail Trail Café is lending us a room to rest and warm up. The whole motto of the event is go because you can. There’s some who can’t.”
