Lucky to be alive

Tori Abbott is lucky to be alive.

Fortunately, Abbott was only shaken and not injured when something smashed into her car Thursday afternoon.

Abbot was heading into Vernon on Highway 97 at the north end of town between the weigh scales and Meadowlark Road when a large object hit her car smashing the windshield and spraying the inside of her vehicle with glass.

The object did not go through the windshield, saving Abbott from serious injury.

“It was massive,” Abbott said of the object. “I saw it coming at me, but I have no idea what it was. It was big and dark.”

Abbott said it appeared the object came from a tractor trailer unit heading the opposite way on the highway.

“I had no choice but to let it come at me because I had cars on either side of me,” said Abbott, adding the incident happened at approximately 3:40 p.m. Thursday.

“I'm just thankful I did not have my children with me because there is like a million shards of glass blown throughout my vehicle,” she said, adding the car is being towed to ICBC.

“I don't know what the outcome would have been if it had come through the windshield because it was dead smack on my face. I probably wouldn't be telling this story right now.”

To add insult to injury, Abbott just purchased her car four days ago.

Abbott said no one stopped when her vehicle was hit, but she is hoping someone will come forward with information on the incident.

She has posted about the incident on the Vernon and Area Community Forum page.
