Kids' art, from the heart

Kids' art, from the heart, is on display at the Vernon Public Art Gallery.

The annual Art From The Heart exhibition opened Saturday, showcasing work created by School District 22 elementary students. It continues until April 10.

More than 200 pieces of art created by budding artists brought about 100 people in on opening day. Plenty of those were the artists themselves, along with parents and grandparents.

The artists range in age from five to 12 years old. The kids are fearless in their use of colour, technique, and media.

“It’s really amazing to see their artwork in a place like this,” said one parent, beaming. “They’re so proud to see it on the walls.”

“Every year, it’s so much fun to see their work," â€‹said gallery staffer Carmen Winther.

There will be plenty of time for the youngsters to view each others' art as spring break is underway, with students returning to school April 2.

The gallery's hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
