Hwy 97A accident fatal

UPDATE: 4 p.m.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have confirmed one person has died as a result of their injuries from the motor vehicle incident that occurred earlier this morning on Highway 97A in Spallumcheen.


UPDATE: 12:40 p.m.

DriveBC reports that as of 12:30 p.m., the scene has been cleared at Pleasant Valley Road.


UPDATE 11:06 a.m.

RCMP are currently on scene at a serious collision involving two vehicles on Highway 97A at Pleasant Valley Road in Spallumcheen.

“Highway 97A remains closed in both directions and (an) estimated time of reopening is not known. RCMP collision analysts are currently on scene at this time. Two drivers and one passenger have all been transported to the nearest medical facility, with one person in critical condition,” says Const. Kelly Brett.

The cause of the collision is not known, she added.

Police said further information regarding the collision will not be released at this time, and for updates on road closures go to drivebc.ca.

“RCMP would like to remind motorists to drive according to weather conditions; slow down, take your time and ensure you have the proper winter driving tires,” said Brett.


Motorists are telling Castanet there is an accident on Highway 97 near Armstrong.

One driver said the highway is closed and vehicles are being re-routed along Pleasant Valley Road.

There are reports of two vehicles involved in the accident.

It it not yet known if there are any injuries in the collision.
