Cops quiet on shooting

Vernon RCMP are being tight lipped about a fatal shooting that happened in Vernon last week.

“We probably won't be releasing any further details about the incident unless we need to advance the investigation,” said Const. Kelly Brett Monday morning.

Early Friday morning, RCMP responded to the Village Green Hotel in force and that afternoon, police confirmed one person was dead from gunshot wounds and another was in custody.

On Friday, Brett says police are investigating multiple scenes resulting from what is believed to be a targeted break and enter that turned violent overnight.

Just before 1 a.m., RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at a home on the 9800 block of Park Lane in Lavington. It was reported there were possible shots fired, resulting in one occupant of the home sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

About half an hour later, police swarmed the Village Green Hotel, where one man was reported with an apparent gunshot injury. He has since died, police say.

RCMP secured and investigated multiple crime scenes, and believe that the two incidents may be related, said Brett.
