Hospice wants you to dance

So, you think you can dance? You can prove it – and shake your booty for charity in the 12th annual Dancing with the Vernon Stars event.

North Okanagan Hospice Society is putting out a call for dancers to participate in the Sept. 27 fundraiser gala and auction at the Prestige Vernon Lodge and Conference Centre.

The event pairs professional dance instructors with locals for a great cause.

Hospice currently has five dance teams participating, however, five more couples are needed.

Any dance style is welcome, from to  ballroom, Broadway, hip hop, country or classical. The coaches will tailor a routine to your ability.

“It is truly amazing to watch the couples develop in the months leading up to the event. Many of them have never done anything like this before. The coaches are skillful at taking couples from their first awkward steps, to helping them gain confidence as they learn the routines, to putting on incredible performances on the evening of the event,” says hospice executive director Ruth Edwards.

With assistance from hospice staff, teams are asked to fundraise a minimum of $7,500 prior to the big night. They will also attend a “launch party” at the Schubert Centre in April, where they will get to meet each other along with the coaches and judges, share fundraising ideas and have their individual photo and video shoots done to help develop promotional material for the event.
