Super soup is served

The popular soup showdown is back on the menu.

Culinary teams from nine Vernon restaurants will put their best soups forward during Soup's On, a friendly competition that benefits the less fortunate.

On Thursday, the third annual event will serve up the best soup in the Valley while raising money for the Upper Room Mission.

To date, the event has raised $10,000 for the mission.

Proceeds this year will go to revamping its community gardens.

“This year’s competition is going to be the toughest – and tastiest – yet,” said Abby Lagerquist, a fourth-year Okanagan College business student and Soup’s On Enactus project manager. “Many competitors have already begun preparing and testing their soups and last year’s winner, Intermezzo, is definitely looking to defend their title.”

Participants are encouraged to taste each soup and vote on their favourite. The restaurant with the most votes will take home a ladle full of glory, prestige and the title of 2019 Soup’s On champion.

“As a Soup’s On competitor, we were very impressed with the event last year,” said David Scarlatescu from The Fig Bistro. “It was great to see many businesses get together for a nice and healthy competition in our community.”

Competing restaurants are The Fig Bistro, Basket Case Picnics & Catering, Intermezzo, The Kal, Little Tex, Jolly Good Spudz, Nature’s Fare, Eatology and Stumpy’s Phillys & Flats.

The event will also feature live entertainment, door prizes, a silent auction and cash bar.

Soup’s On is a 19-plus event and tickets are $30, which includes a complimentary drink ticket and soup samples from each restaurant.

Soup's On takes place 6-8:30 p.m. at the college’s Vernon campus.

Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.
