Miss Optimist Club

Vernon's 59th Queen Silver Star will be crowned Jan. 31 at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre, kicking off the Vernon Winter Carnival Feb. 1-10.

Castanet is featuring all the candidates vying for the title. Among them is Miss North Okanagan Optimist Club, Morgan Graham. She attends Grade 10 at Clarence Fulton Secondary School. One of her biggest achievements is receiving a silver medal in wrestling.

She enjoys swimming, archery, and reading, and plans to attend the University of Alberta and become a forensic pathologist.

The Queen Silver Star Excellence Program for young women 15 to 18 includes six months of training in a wide variety of skills, from etiquette to car maintenance, health and fitness, modelling and deportment, self defence and public speaking. They can also win scholarships.

The candidates take part in a fashion show and talent showcase, and those chosen as ambassadors spend the year travelling as ambassadors for the City of Vernon.
