Keeping it safe

The sad reality is, there are thieves among us.

But the Community Safety Office in downtown Vernon can help protect your valuables.

On Saturday, the office had an engraving day where valuable items were marked so if they were stolen, police would be able to identify the items.

Rachel Zubick, with the CSO, said there are lots of thefts from vehicles in Vernon, and at this time of year, skis and snowboards are a common target.

But any valuables left in a vehicle can be a target for thieves.

“We can engrave pretty much anything,” said Zubick. “We can engrave bikes so bring bikes in here during the summer. That will give us an opportunity to recover things should they be stolen.”

People can bring their items to the CSO at 3010 31st Ave.

Zubick also encourages people to keep a valuable property record of their belongings.
