1 dead in Hwy 97 accident

RCMP have confirmed that a vehicle incident that caused the closure of Highway 97 Sunday afternoon was fatal. 

In a release to media, Const. Kelly Brett stated that the collision involved three vehicles and happened just after 3 p.m. on Highway 97 near Birnie Rd.

"Upon officer's arrival, good Samaritans were administering first aid to those injured, however, one woman died as a result of her injuries. Other injured parties were transported to the nearest medical facility."

The highway was closed for several hours as crews investigated

"The investigation into this tragic incident is still on-going, however, it is alleged by witnesses that one vehicle was driving dangerously just before the incident occurred," stated Brett. 

According to RCMP, a total of three vehicles and seven people were involved in the collision. However, other than the fatality,  the condition of those injured was not known.
