Lights out for Xmas show

There's definitely not many Christmas light-shows like this one.

One Vernon woman along with her husband, their children and even their grandchildren have been keeping the Christmas spirit alive with a light and music show right in their own yard.

The show features more than 40,000 lights.

"We used to do a family tradition of driving around town looking at Christmas lights," said Suzanne Robert, owner of the home and Voila Hair Studio and Spa.

The whole idea stemmed from a house in the BX that used to put on an amazing Christmas themed light show every year.

"They stopped doing, so we came home and talked about it and decided we should carry on the torch," Robert said.

This will be the sixth year Suzanne along with her family have put on the display at 4105 Pleasant Valley Road.

"Our hearts just fill with joy when we see the children running through the yard just screaming with joy and excitement," she said.

Unfortunately, this will be the last year for the one-of-a-kind light-show that's been known to light up the faces of kids and adults of all ages.

"Sadly, some have not been very happy with our display and it has inconvenienced some of our neighbours and so we've decided that it's time to pass the torch on," Robert said.

Suzanne hopes that someone else in the community would be willing to take over her amazing Christmas light-show and that it continues to be an annual tradition somewhere in Vernon.

"In the end, we just really want to thank those in the community who have come, who have regularly supported our cause and our mission."

Over the past six years, Suzanne's light-show has raised about $15,000 for the Vernon Women's Transition House Society, and this year she hopes to raise another $5,000 for the non-profit.

The public can enjoy the 30-minute Christmas and music light-show daily, every hour on the hour starting at 5 p.m.

To hear the music that corresponds with the light show tune into 88.1 FM from the comfort of your own vehicle, but make sure to arrive a few minutes early.

From 5:30 to 8 p.m. every night, you can follow the path into the backyard and enjoy the Christmas maze, which features a Christmas tree forest, a snowman village, apple cider, candy canes and many more surprises.

Don't forget to bring a cash donation that can be inserted into the little red locked bin where you enter and leave the parking lot.

All funds raised will be donated to the Vernon Women's Transition House Society.
