Over the past couple weeks, multiple cougar sightings have been posted to the Around the Block Lumby Facebook page.
One person caught on camera a cougar walking across their driveway in Lumby.
"They don't hibernate, so they are out year around," said Mike Richardson, conservation officer. "They're hunting, their main prey is deer."
"What happens sometimes and what's happened in this case out in Lumby was they were following the deer, which Lumby has tons of urban deer and sometimes they get into the neighbourhoods."
Despite cougars being spotted fairly regularly, it's still important to be aware and take necessary precautions.
"I wouldn't say it's 100 per cent normal," Richardson said. "Cougars they do wander into these areas as I said following deer."
If you suspect a cougar might be in the area of your property make sure to bring your domestic pets inside and safely secure your livestock.
