RCMP with rifles downtown

Police had long guns drawn in downtown Vernon, Saturday.

It's not known what prompted the police action, but Tanya Kaempf posted dramatic photos of officers combing the area near the downtown bus loop to the Vernon Rant and Rave Facebook page.

"Police with rifles everywhere!" she said.

Several RCMP officers were searching the area near 31st Avenue and 30th Street, just after 11:20 a.m., near the Greyhound bus depot.

Some have speculated the officers were looking for someone, but as of noon, they were no longer in the area.
